The Beaches of Ubatuba

Big Beach
Easy access along the BR 101 highway, at Km 54.
Beach with white sand and strong waves, it is one of the most frequented and valued beaches in Ubatuba. Our Hotel is located here. The beach has infrastructure consisting of toilets, kiosks, parking and a lifeguard station (Under construction now in summer 2019/2020 - lifeguards however continue to work throughout the beach).
The left corner of the beach, known as Canto do Baguarí, is the surfers' favorite and is also busier (and has a larger stretch of sand). From the left corner you can access Praia do Tenório and Praia Vermelhinha.
The right corner is a little less busy. There, going up a trail that runs alongside the highway, you can access the Mirante da Praia Grande, a place with a beautiful view of Praia Grande itself and also Praia das Toninhas.

Did you know? (1) Praia Grande has its own sewage treatment plant, maintained by the residents' association. Clean water and sand, on 1,800m of beach with a wide strip of sand. (2) It was in the waters of this beach that great names in Brazilian surfing were born, such as Ricardo Toledo and Tadeu Pereira. (3) From the viewpoint there is a trail that goes down to Praia das Toninhas.

Tenorio Beach
Next to Praia Grande
Located between Praia Grande and Praia Vermelha do Centro, 2km from Hotel Coquille, it has a tree-lined shore and some kiosks. It is inside the Condomínio do Tenório - access on foot is free, but cars must be left before the guardhouse.

Cedro Beach
Access via trail, on the way to Ponta Grossa.
Cedro Beach is 4.5 km from the Coquille Hotel, just after Vermelha Beach in the center, on the way to Ponta Grossa.
The route can be done by car, along a winding road with ups and downs. Some sections are paved, others are dirt.
The final stretch, however, must be done on foot. There is a trail downhill, a little steep, but the effort is well worth it!
Beach of
Itaguá
Acesso fácil, no Bairro do Itaguá.
It is located 2.5 km from the Coquille Hotel. Along the waterfront, you can enjoy excellent restaurants serving all types of cuisine, with fish and seafood as the main focus, as well as a variety of restaurants, kiosks and shops. It is not recommended for swimming, but it does offer a wide promenade for pleasant walks, bike rides or jogging with magnificent views.

Sununga Beach
South of Ubatuba, 10km from Coquille.
Just after Saco da Ribeira, it is easily accessible on the left side of Praia do Lázaro. There is the Gruta que Chora, a curious formation, beautiful for photos, whose walls are always pouring water (hence the name).
It has strong waves, especially on days with a swell, which provide a visual spectacle. The waves hit the rocky wall on the right and return, forming cross waves.
It is a Tombo Beach, dangerous, as it gets deep very quickly. It is not a beach for beginner swimmers.

Almada Beach
North of Ubatuba, 44km from Coquille.
To get to this beach, you must head north towards Paraty. Leaving BR 101, there is a winding and narrow road, which is paved, and provides beautiful views of Engenho and Ubatumirim beaches. On the way there or back, stop at Mirante da Chica, where there is a restaurant. It is worth it for the view and the food. In Almada, you will find kiosks and parking - you can spend the day there. From there, you can easily access Engenho beach.
Engenho Beach
Beautiful beach next to Praia da Almada
On the left corner of Praia da Almada there is an easy, paved access. Going up there, between a restaurant and some houses, you will reach Praia do Engenho. With calm waters, it is a great option for a dip in the sea.
